Custom Type Design
We design custom typefaces for brands, individuals and cultural institutions, including Camper, ELLE, Galderma and the V&A.
From single display styles to full font families, each typeface is developed to suit the needs of the project and the context it will live in. The process is collaborative and shaped by typographic expertise.

Benefits of Custom Type
Custom type plays an integral role in establishing a strong visual identity. A bespoke typeface gives form to voice and values in ways off the shelf fonts can’t, through details shaped specifically for each brand.
There are practical benefits too. From simplifying licensing and reducing long-term costs, to creating a consistent system that works across platforms and regions.

Modifying An Existing Typeface
We also offer tailored modifications to our existing retail fonts for commissions with tighter timelines or more defined budgets. This can range from subtle refinements to more substantial reworking, depending on the project’s aims.
By adapting an existing design, we can deliver something distinct and purposeful, without the lead time of a fully bespoke commission.

Our Approach
Whether the project involves adapting an existing font, creating a one-off style, or developing a complete family, our approach follows three defined stages from start to finish.
Stage 1: Concept Design
We begin by designing a small set of key characters to define the tone and direction of the typeface.
Stage 2: Design Development
The initial forms are refined and extended into a full character set, with additional weights or styles developed as needed.
Stage 3: Type Engineering
The design is engineered into working font files for desktop and web use. This includes spacing, kerning, hinting for web, and preparing the final files with the chosen name.
