About
A Practice for Everyday Life is a studio for creative direction, design and type since 2003. Through research and consultancy, we create meaningful, original design across brand identities, campaigns, digital, editorial design and custom type. Our process is grounded in curiosity, clarity of purpose, and a shared commitment to excellence.
Our work has developed in collaborations with global brands such as Aesop, Birkenstock, Erdem, JW Anderson, John Lobb and Vitra, as well as with individuals and cultural institutions including David Zwirner, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Gagosian, The Hepworth Wakefield, the V&A and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
The studio’s founders, Kirsty Carter and Emma Thomas, are co-Presidents of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) UK Chapter.
Type Design
Typography lies at the heart of our design process. We design custom typefaces for brands, individuals and cultural institutions, including Camper, ELLE, Galderma and the V&A.
Commissions range from modifying existing fonts and creating one-off display styles to developing full type families. Each typeface is designed to suit the needs of the project and the context it will live in. The process is collaborative and shaped by typographic expertise.
Alongside custom type commissions, we publish a collection of retail fonts available to license directly through our website.
