This bespoke typeface was designed as part of the identity for Camulodunum, the inaugural exhibition at Firstsite, Colchester, in 2011. The show questioned how history is recovered, represented and re-enacted; works by international artists including Henry Moore and Ai Weiwei were juxtaposed with historical artefacts from the local museum’s collection. The typeface design references simple letterforms found on iron-age coins, and both Display and Stencil versions are developed from the structural foundations that underpin examples of Roman painted and carved lettering.
