A Practice for Everyday Life

Works on Paper is a journal created by Permanent Collection founders Fanny Singer and Mariah Nielson, for which they commission writing, research and critique relating to art and design. The three volumes published to date feature contributions from artists, critics and curators including Hilton Als, Jeremy Deller, Jason Farago, Ann Gallagher, Emily King, Laura McLean-Ferris and Lou Stoppard.

It was important that Works on Paper had its own visual identity, distinct from the Permanent Collection branding but able to sit harmoniously alongside. The cover for the each volume features full-bleed debossed type inspired by the Modernist printed ephemera, which were supplied by the founders amongst their visual references for the project. Inside, printed on newsprint-like paper stock, the layout accommodates text and images in a wide range of formats, in response to the diverse nature of the contributions commissioned for each volume.
