A Practice for Everyday Life

Opened to the public in September 2018, V&A Dundee is Scotland’s first dedicated design museum, and the first permanent outpost of the Victoria & Albert Museum outside of London. The museum is housed in a new building designed by Kengo Kuma – his first to be realised within the UK – and is situated on the waterfront of the River Tay in central Dundee, as part of a major regeneration programme for the area.

To commemorate the opening of the new museum, we designed a bespoke typeface for V&A Dundee for use within a publication about the building, and on merchandise and a range of other items. The design of the type references the design of the building, with its modular concrete cladding that itself echoes the rocky structures of cliffs on the eastern Scottish coast.
