Written by design curator and writer Corinne Mynatt, Tools for Food is a visual journey through kitchen utensils from around the world. Over 250 everyday and niche objects, spanning the fourth century to the present day, are brought together to trace their evolution: their design development and historical significance.
Our bold but rational approach to the design evolved out of the book’s extensive content, making it both enjoyable and accessible to the reader. The distinctive navy and red colour combination used on the cover continues inside as illustrative interventions on section dividers and large image spreads. Throughout, illustrations are cut out in order to emphasise the objects’ unique forms and textures, and to eschew a conventional, academic approach.
