A Practice for Everyday Life

Presented as a non-chronological visual essay, Abacus documents 10 years of collage works by artist and curator Simon Moretti, known for his practice using appropriated imagery and archival material. The publication's cover presents four cut-out collages printed in full colour onto a soft grey paper – a material often used by Moretti in his own works – to create a visual and textural difference between the sequence of collaged works.

Our design for the book utilises a diverse and dynamic grid system to vary the pace, with images sequenced across the book without any corresponding captioning to allow the reader to experience the works like a single collage. Essays and text interventions are interspersed throughout the book periodically, broadening conversations between the groups of works and offering insights into Moretti’s working practice.
