Permanent Collection, founded by curators Fanny Singer and Mariah Nielson, creates womenswear, accessories and objects based on historical and contemporary designs. Inspired by the approach to acquisition taken by museums of international renown, their products celebrate the timeless value of good design. The brand’s inaugural collection was launched in autumn 2016.
We created the Permanent Collection identity, using Granby for the logotype and headlines to reflect the Modernist typographic influences cited by the brand’s founders. This was paired with a serif font, Sabon, for the body type, laid out in a manner reminiscent of museum labels. The packaging we designed for the range of coats, scarves, shoes and objects uses materials often found in archival supplies: lined kraft board, metal fixings and newsprint. The flecked blue paper used for the packing bags was chosen to complement the textiles sourced for Permanent Collection’s range of coats, and for the artwork on the printed wrapping paper was designed by designer Gemma Holt.
