A Practice for Everyday Life

Olivia Plender’s practice spans performance, installation, drawing and publications, and is rooted in research into a broad range of historical influences. Working in close collaboration with the artist and editor Gerrie van Noord, we designed the website to be a visual archive of Plender’s work and research.

The visual homepage brings together the projects under nine key strands, offering visitors different routes to discover the work. In response to Plender’s multidisciplinary approach, we designed a flexible content grid for the variety of media – including installation shots, archival imagery, text pieces and sound works – to provide each project with a distinctive look, while also working together as a whole.

The site's tagging system connects the projects to a site-wide index of themes, which is designed to highlight different associations across the research and to evolve over time. In a nod to the archival approach for the site, a functional sans serif is combined with the more traditional serif Excelsior, while the cursor is a distinctive green dot akin to a hole punch.
