Established in 1716, Nakagawa is a brand that produces and presents products by over 800 artisans across 60 stores in Japan. We collaborated with Jones Neville on Nakagawa's first European store in Shoreditch, east London.
The interior design, made from British sycamore and linen book-cloth, takes inspiration from the geometric forms featured in Nakagawa’s products and packaging. Graphics are quietly integrated throughout, with text hand-painted onto glass and wood, allowing the objects to take focus.
For print and digital communications, we developed a series of illustrations that captures the handcrafted quality of the crafts. The simplicity of the illustrated forms emphasises the refined character of each piece, while the tactile textures are a nod to the human hand behind them.
Opened for Shoreditch Design Week 2025, Nakagawa’s London store is open throughout 2026.
