A Practice for Everyday Life

This monograph was published to coincide with a solo exhibition of Franco-Canadian artist Kapwani Kiwanga’s work at the Kunsthaus Pasquart in 2020. Kiwanga’s practice engages with a diverse range of media including sculpture, installation, video, photography and textile, and is underpinned by research methodologies influenced by her earlier studies in anthropology and comparative religion.

Our design for the publication reflects these methodologies and responds to the materiality of Kiwanga’s works. The cover features exposed greyboard wrapped with various textured papers, and tip-ins throughout the book further emphasise this tactility, using one-sided coated stock and tinted transparent paper at a range of different widths. The trilingual text is delineated through a consistent colour scheme, reflecting the artist’s own interest in colour theory, and is set in a neutral sans-serif typeface, Neue Haas Grotesk.
