Georg Baselitz: Sculptures 2011–2015 brings together Baselitz’s raw, timber sculptures – each carved from a single tree trunk – with drawings made during the sculpting process, providing insight into the artist's creative process.
The publication accompanies an exhibition at the Serpentine in London’s Hyde Park. The gallery’s parkscape permeates into its interior spaces, establishing a dialogue between Baselitz’s timber sculptures and the landscape, which is reflected in the catalogue’s colour scheme: a dark green cover and brown paper tip-in.
Typography throughout is set in Friedel, by the APFEL Type Foundry, with custom ‘r’ and ‘t’ glyphs inspired by the foot motif present throughout Baselitz’s work. Written and visual contributions from contemporary artists Alvaro Barrington, Huma Bhabha, Tracey Emin, Rashid Johnson, Jenny Saville, Erwin Wurm and Rose Wylie are interspersed throughout the book, presented on a vibrant yellow drawn from Baselitz’s Yellow Song (2012–13).
