Genius Loci was an exhibition by Lisson Gallery and Berengo Studio at the Palazzo Franchetti in Venice. Held in conjunction with the 2014 Architecture Biennale, the exhibition addressed the complex relationship between art and the public realm, and presented a range of major artworks by 19 artists including Ai Weiwei, Daniel Buren, Dan Graham and Shirazeh Houshiary, displayed both inside the historic Palazzo and outside in the surrounding gardens.
We worked in collaboration with architects Carmody Groarke to create an identity for the exhibition that referenced the architecture of the Palazzo, using the parquet flooring as the starting point for an abstract, bright background pattern within which type is integrated. The yellow colour was chosen to amplify the ochre of the walls of the Palazzo.
