Emily Wardill & Ian White: We Are Behind
In her introduction, Emily Wardill describes this book as a lecture in seven parts: “I am going to talk about the object. I am not just going to talk about it, I want to make us feel it, with our flesh”. Wardill’s film work focuses on and explores various objects, but also treats the medium of film as an object in itself.
The typography and layouts used throughout the book make oblique references to the narratives of Wardill’s films, whilst embodying content from her performances and lectures. It aims to facilitate a transfer of knowledge from author to reader, whilst subverting many of the conventions inherent within the form of the book.
