A Practice for Everyday Life

This publication documents the architecture and interior design of the At Six hotel in Stockholm, Sweden, by Universal Design Studio. The hotel itself is housed within a Brutalist building that was originally conceived by architects Boijsen & Efervgren in the 1970s. The interior design concept of At Six is built around the works of art and design on display throughout the building; these works, in a variety of media, are impressive and imposing without being intimidating, creating unexpected moments within the architecture of the hotel.

For the cover of the book, a dark blue image of one of the larger sculptures in the hotel is printed on a dark, textured paper stock, accented with foiled type in reference to the metallic interior fittings throughout the hotel. Images are reproduced at a large scale, interspersed with coloured inserts depicting archive material. The book is typeset in varying weights of Folio, an often overlooked realist sans-serif typeface first released in the 1950s, whose subtly harsh edges and inconsistencies chime with the aesthetic of the building’s façade.
