A Practice for Everyday Life

Built on a site rich with industrial history, Pershore Junction is a new residence for students in Birmingham. We developed a full wayfinding and signage scheme, made in ceramic to celebrate the area’s manufacturing heritage and roots in hand-made craft.

The building’s external ceramic sign is composed of modular lettering – the bespoke form of which is dictated by the traditional processes used by a local manufacturer. The signage throughout compliments Tatham Studio’s interior colour palette with lettering that incorporates the same modular language.

Wayfinding signs take the form of ceramic tiles, made in terracotta to match the brick façade with a textured off-white glaze. Typography is set in a grotesque sans serif, featuring tight apertures that have an industrial connotation without appearing machine-like.
