Haroon Mirza: Movement
Haroon Mirza works with sound, video, sculpture and light, often incorporating readymade elements and pre-existing machinery, to create installations1 and assemblages that alter perceptions of these objects’ intended function. Utilising objects such as old furniture, household electronics, machines, video footage and sometimes even works by other artists, Mirza’s compositions reveal the hidden qualities of these outwardly disparate objects. We worked closely together with the artist to develop a way of communicating his methodologies in print.
The typeface used throughout is derived from a machine font used for routing, and the book cover image—a photo of a spinning record—was sliced into with the same kind of routing machine, creating a physical intervention into the object. Throughout the book, spinning page numbers echo the movement of the cover.
