Performa 05

Brand Identity and Printed Material

Performa is a biennial for visual art performance in New York City. When we met our client at the Venice Biennale, we were in the midst of experiencing the flux and movement that happens at a large arts event attended by swarms of visitors. We carried this feeling into the Performa identity, creating something organic that changes and grows each year.

Performa 07

Brand Identity and Printed Material

2005’s frantic hand drawn arrows morphed into digital cursor arrows for 2007. This illustrated identity was accompanied by an advertising campaign which we conceived and designed using collected quotes that challenged exisited modes of thinking about visual art performance.

Performa 09

Brand Identity and Printed Material

In 2009 the arrows were then replaced by metallic geometric shapes. Inspired by the biennial’s Futurist theme, we also developed typographic illustrations taking quotes from the Futurist Manifestos to include on various pieces of print work.

Everywhere and All at Once: An Anthology of Writings on Performa 07

As a compendium of all the performances from Perfoma 07, this publication reflects the ever-changing nature of Performa, and offers a view into the key themes of that year's biennial. As well as documenting each of the works in depth, it includes interviews with the artists and essays on the multitude of events that take place around New York City throughout the duration of the biennial. Continuing the colour scheme and identity we had used on other Performa 07 material, a bright red was used as an accent colour throughout. Maps of the performance locations were provided on the flaps of the cover, and a facsimile of the programme was reproduced to give context to the writing.
