Saki Improper Stories

Publication

Saki’s Improper Stories are a collection of tales – whose witty, mischievous and sometimes macabre stories satirise Edwardian society and culture. Wild beasts stampede through the drawing room, servants suffer from murderous delusions, and sinister children plot revenge on their elders – all sources of inspiration for the various Illustrations on the jacket, and the embossed detail on the cover beneath.

Sybille Bedford A Favourite of the Gods

Publication

A Favourite of the Gods is a brilliant book by British writer Sybille Bedford. It follows the lives of three generations of privileged women in a corrupt and decadent 1920s Europe. The art deco inspired icon used throughout the book represents one of the character's lost rings from the beginning of the novel.
